Master musician Rhoda Scott is back in Jersey, and back in school

Scott has a gift for understatement. The Atlantic County native — she grew up in the Dorothy section of Weymouth Township — has lived in Paris for 43 years, and since she is one of her instrument’s greatest players, it’s big news that she is back. Scott headlines an All-Star Organ Jam in the Terrace Ballroom of Newark’s Symphony Hall, Saturday at 8 p.m.

WNYC’s Schaefer marks three decades

John Schaefer on WNYC celebrates 30 years tonight at 8 and chats with live performances by some of his favorite artists.
Since its start in the framework of classical music radio station of the team, Schaefer has introduced audiences to genre-bending figures such as Steve Reich, David Byrne and Ravi Shankar hosting “New Sounds” (which aired every night at 11). ‘Smackdown’.
The ‘Smackdown’ is the musical version of the sports talk radio. The nice thing is arguing about who’s best, who came out winners and losers in the NFL draft. People are just as passionate about music. I wanted to have arguments: Beatles or Stones? Oasis or Blur? And I’ll never pass up the chance to make a silly voice on the radio.
